The South Papua Provincial Government has established a partnership with Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta to strengthen the development of the education sector in the region.
The agreement was signed by South Papua Governor Apolo Safanpo and UNS Rector Hartono at the UNS campus in Surakarta.
Governor Apolo stated that South Papua stands to gain significant benefits from this partnership.
He hopes that the people and the youth of South Papua will have broader opportunities to pursue education at UNS.
Additionally, the partnership is expected to open up other opportunities in the education sector that align with the region’s potential.
According to Apolo, South Papua possesses significant potential in the agriculture, fisheries, and plantation sectors.
Therefore, he hopes that if UNS offers degree programs related to fisheries and other relevant fields, the youth of South Papua can gain access to education in those departments.
He also noted that South Papua is one of the priority regions in the national strategic food security program.
The region is considered to possess vast natural resources with the potential for further development.
Meanwhile, UNS Rector Hartono views this collaboration as a strategic step to strengthen synergy between the university and the local government.
In his view, this collaboration supports the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education, research, and community service.
UNS also reaffirmed its commitment to developing high-quality human resources capable of making a tangible contribution to society.
This collaboration is expected to accelerate development in South Papua, particularly in the fields of education and sustainable human resource capacity building.
