The Jayapura Regency Tourism and Culture Office has declared birdwatching to be one of its premier eco-tourism destinations.
This activity will be promoted during the Sentani Lake Festival, which will be held in June.
The center of birdwatching activities is located at Isyo Hills, Rephang Muaif Village, Nimbokrang District.
The area is known as one of the best locations to see birds of paradise in their natural habitat.
According to Tourism Agency Head Ted Mokay, this destination is popular with many tourists, especially international visitors.
Therefore, the local government has provided support through the development of supporting facilities.
These facilities include an observation tower for viewing birds of paradise and lodging for visitors.
The Jayapura Regency government considers eco-tourism to be highly promising, as the region boasts a diverse array of natural resources.
In addition to birdwatching, Jayapura offers other destinations such as Mount Cycloop for hiking and scenic views.
Lake Sentani and popular beaches such as Amai Beach, Harlem Beach, Serebouw, and Yepase are also key attractions in the region.
Moving forward, the government plans to continue developing the nature tourism sector, including hiking tours on Mount Cycloop.
