President Joko Widodo stated that the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) was established as a center for fostering creativity, innovation, and skills among Papua’s youth.
This facility is designed to support various sectors, ranging from fashion, the creative industries, and digital technology to the livestock and fisheries sectors, which hold great potential in Papua.
According to the President, the existence of PYCH is expected to open up new business opportunities and jobs while improving the welfare of the Papuan people through human resource development.
PYCH itself is a follow-up to the aspirations of Papuan youth conveyed directly to President Jokowi in 2019 regarding the need for spaces for creativity and youth empowerment.
When inaugurating PYCH in Jayapura in March 2023, the President expressed his pride that an idea originating from Papuan youth had finally been realized as a tangible facility.
PYCH features various modern facilities, including a music studio, a photography studio, a podcast studio, a space for showcasing local products, and areas dedicated to startup and digital technology development.
The President also noted that the creativity of Papua’s youth holds great potential for growth and can compete both nationally and internationally if it continues to receive the right support.
In addition to serving as a hub for creativity, PYCH is expected to foster more young entrepreneurs, local flagship products, and new innovations from the land of Papua.
The government even plans to develop similar concepts in several other regions across Indonesia as part of its efforts to strengthen the national creative economy.
The existence of PYCH is seen as a symbol of the government’s commitment to empowering Papua’s youth to become more independent, innovative, and competitive in the digital economy era.
