The South West Papua Provincial Government has begun implementing a mobile doctor program in Raja Ampat Regency as part of an effort to improve the quality of public health services.
This program is primarily focused on residents in areas where access to comprehensive medical facilities is limited.
The medical team deployed consists of personnel from the Health Department along with specialist doctors.
They include internists, pediatricians, and other supporting healthcare workers.
Services in Raja Ampat are centralized at the Waisai Clinic.
This region is the final location after a similar program previously reached four other regencies and one city in West Papua.
The government aims to serve approximately 1,000 patients in total through this program.
Of that number, around 400 patients are targeted to receive services in Waisai.
This program aims to expand residents’ access to specialist medical care.
Especially for areas that do not yet have a permanent, fully staffed medical team.
If patients require further treatment, they will be referred to community health centers or more adequately equipped healthcare facilities.
Additionally, the mobile doctor program has been a regular initiative since the formation of West Papua Province three years ago.
This initiative is also integrated with free medical treatment and free health check-up programs.
The services cover all age groups, ranging from infants, school-age children, adolescents, pregnant women, to the elderly.
The government hopes this program will help narrow the gap in healthcare services between regions.
