Ministry of Tourism Encourages Tourism Investment Outside Bali

The Ministry of Tourism continues to encourage the expansion of tourism sector investment to various regions of Indonesia outside of Bali in order to create more equitable economic growth.

This step is being taken to reduce the concentration of investment and tourist visits, which have so far remained centered on the island of Bali.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana emphasized that Indonesia has many premier destinations ready to be developed through sustainable, long-term investment.

The government is also engaging investors, local governments, associations, and business operators to provide input in formulating a strategy to strengthen the national tourism investment climate.

The approach prioritizes principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and competitiveness, while delivering broader economic benefits to local communities.

As part of its equitable development strategy, the government is prioritizing the development of 10 Priority Tourism Destinations spread across various regions of Indonesia.

Key destinations targeted for development include Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Raja Ampat.

The government hopes these destinations will develop into new centers of economic growth capable of creating jobs and improving the well-being of local communities.

In addition to destination development, the government is also aligning its strategy with global trends that increasingly emphasize sustainable tourism, wellness tourism, and authentic travel experiences.

To strengthen governance in the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism is also developing an API-based verification system to ensure that accommodations marketed digitally hold valid business licenses.

Through these various measures, the government hopes that the economic benefits of the tourism sector will be more widely distributed across Indonesia’s regions and support more inclusive and sustainable development.
