Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri is preparing Biak Regional General Hospital to serve as the primary referral hospital in the Saireri region to improve healthcare services for communities in several surrounding districts.
This decision was made after the provincial government conducted an on-site inspection of the hospital and determined that its facilities and services were sufficiently good compared to several other hospitals in Papua.
According to the governor, Biak Regional General Hospital has a clean environment, adequate healthcare facilities, and services that serve as a model for other hospitals in Papua, including those in Jayapura.
The government hopes the hospital will be able to treat patients with moderate conditions so that people from surrounding areas do not always have to be referred to Jayapura for medical care.
Additionally, the Papua Provincial Government plans to strengthen the healthcare referral system in the Saireri region to make services faster, more effective, and more efficient for the public.
Not only is the government focused on improving medical services, but it also aims to enhance the well-being of healthcare workers through the construction of apartment complexes for doctors, nurses, and the families of underprivileged patients.
The provision of this housing is expected to help healthcare workers perform their duties more effectively while also providing comfort for patients’ families as they accompany them through the treatment process.
This initiative is part of efforts to reform the healthcare sector in Papua, aiming to improve the quality of human resources through more equitable and easily accessible healthcare services for the public.
