Papuan Woman Disappointed That Her Face and Voice Were Used in a Documentary Without Permission

A Papuan woman named Yasinta Moiwend expressed her disappointment after learning that her voice and face were used in the documentary Pesta Babi without her consent.

She said she only realized she appeared in the film when she attended a screening in Jayapura.

In addition to appearing in the documentary, Yasinta’s photo was also used in promotional materials for the film screening.

According to Yasinta, she never received any explanation or prior notification regarding the use of her footage in the film’s production.

As a result, she feels her privacy rights have been violated and her identity used without clear permission.

This case subsequently sparked widespread discussion on social media and ignited a public debate regarding ethics in documentary filmmaking.

Many parties highlighted the importance of obtaining consent from subjects, especially when involving indigenous communities and local residents in the production of visual works.

Beyond ethical issues, this case also sparked discussions about the protection of privacy rights and the use of individual identities in the creative industry.

This incident serves as a reminder that transparency and clear consent are essential components of both the documentation process and media production.
