Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the development of productive shrimp farms across various regions of Indonesia.
This commitment was announced after the President inspected the Area-Based Shrimp Farming Project (BUBK) in Kebumen, Central Java.
The government is currently developing aquaculture projects in several regions, including a 2,000-hectare site in Waingapu, a 200-hectare site in Gorontalo, and the Pantura region of West Java, which is focused on fish farming.
According to Prabowo, the development of these aquaculture farms aims to create new jobs, increase economic value-added, and boost national foreign exchange earnings through the food export sector.
The President also urged cabinet members to prioritize projects that are truly productive and have a direct impact on public welfare.
Prabowo noted that the success of the Kebumen shrimp farm serves as a concrete example of modern fisheries development capable of achieving high productivity.
The ponds are reportedly capable of producing around 40 tons of shrimp per hectare, with a selling price of up to Rp70 million per ton.
Given these results, the government aims to accelerate the development of similar projects across various regions to maximize the potential of national natural resources.
Additionally, the President emphasized the importance of efficient use of the state budget to ensure it is focused on activities that generate tangible economic benefits.
The government believes that the development of productive fish ponds can serve as a key driver of the regional economy while strengthening national food security.
