The central and regional governments in Papua are strengthening their commitment to improving the management of the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus) so that development is more effective and its benefits are truly felt by the community.
This commitment was discussed at the Strategic Coordination Forum for the Acceleration of Development in Papua, held in Timika.
The forum was attended by six governors from the Papua region along with representatives from ministries and state agencies to unify efforts in accelerating development and the well-being of the Papuan people.
The focus of development is directed toward the education, health, and strengthening of the people’s economy sectors as the top priorities for regional development.
The government also highlighted the increase in the allocation of the 2026 Papua Otsus Fund, which amounts to approximately Rp12.69 trillion.
In addition to this budget, there are additional funds awaiting approval from the central government to support the acceleration of basic infrastructure development and public services throughout the Papua region.
During the forum, the central government emphasized the importance of strong coordination between the central and regional governments to ensure the implementation of the Special Autonomy Fund is more transparent, accountable, and targeted.
One of the steps discussed was the integration of digital planning and budgeting systems such as SIPPP, SIPD, and SIKD to accelerate fund disbursement while improving oversight of budget usage.
The Governor of Central Papua, Meki Fritz Nawipa, emphasized the importance of unity among all regions in Papua in building a better and more sustainable future.
Additionally, various stakeholders noted that development in Papua must be based on accurate socioeconomic data, particularly regarding the conditions of the Indigenous Papuan people, so that policies are more equitable and aligned with community needs.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the governors signed a joint commitment to oversee the implementation of the Papua Special Autonomy Fund to ensure it is more transparent, synergistic, and sustainable.
The forum also provided an opportunity for the DPRP and MRP to strengthen their oversight functions regarding the use of funds and the progress of development in Papua.
