PLN Brings Solar Power to a Remote Village in Papua

PT PLN continues to expand access to electricity in remote areas of Papua through the construction of solar power plants (PLTS) in Sarmi Regency.

The project involves the construction of two solar power plants, each equipped with a battery storage system, in Samanente Village and Konderjan Village as part of the 3T region electrification program.

The SPP in Samanente Village has a capacity of 30 kWp, while the one in Konderjan has a capacity of 20 kWp.

Before this project began, residents in both villages relied on kerosene lamps and emergency lighting, which were considered expensive and inefficient for daily needs.

Since the solar power system began operating, residents have experienced various positive changes in their daily activities.

Children can now study at night with better lighting, while public facilities and community services receive a more stable electricity supply.

The availability of electricity has also facilitated economic activities, as residents can now use electrical appliances to support their businesses and other productive endeavors.

Local authorities have welcomed the construction of the solar power plant, as it is seen as a means to improve the quality of life for communities in remote areas of Papua.

PLN explained that solar energy was chosen because it is better suited to Papua’s geographical conditions, where conventional power grids are difficult to extend.

In addition to expanding access to energy, this project is also part of Indonesia’s efforts to promote the transition to clean and sustainable energy in various remote areas.
